Church Plant
This is the first blog entry for our new church site. I hope that this will be informative and helpful if you're checking out our church. If you're a part of our core group, I trust you'll be blessed by following along with my journey in Chicago through Harvest Training Center over the next 7 months.
I mentioned above the term "core group." If you're new to Harvest or just checking us out for the first time you're probably not familiar with the term. Let me take a minute to explain what a core group is and why it's so important for the future of Harvest Bible Chapel Durham. I'll also outline some of the key aspects of being a core group member and why you may want to consider joining us on this journey to plant a church that glorifies Christ.
1) A core group is a group of committed believers that are devoted to the mission and vision of Harvest Bible Chapel. They understand what we are trying to accomplish and how we are going to do it. They are
NOT
, one foot in and one foot out kind of people. They're sold out for Christ, all in, how can I help kind of people.
2) A core group is essential to building a church. Each member plays an important role in the development of the church body. Every individual is gifted in various ways and capacities and is given plenty of opportunities to serve the growing group.
3) The core group members are also the primary agents of growing the group. It's their passion and excitement about what God is doing with Harvest that attracts like-minded believers. Their efforts to ignite a passion for Christ and His church reap huge dividends as God draws people to team up with Harvest Durham. Core group members are intentional about getting the word out.
4) Core group members understand that this is hard work. Planting a church is no walk in the park. The level of commitment is high because the effort and energy required is high. Core group members have embraced the reality that they will give of their time, resources and finances to help accomplish the work that must be done.
I hope you have captured the emphasis of this post. God is at work in Harvest Durham and He is building this core group. We are blessed to be part of what God is doing, the question is: Do you need to be part of it?
For His Glory,
Ian

Thanks for sharing this, Ian. It does help to lay out very specifically what it is to be a 'core member'. I'm looking forward to seeing how God moves and works in the coming months (and reading about it here!).

Ian - just checked out your website - Uncle John and I pray that God will bless this church and that many will be won for the kingdom. Not only will new souls be won but that believers who attend this church will grow closer to our Lord.
We are joining with you in prayer as you and Sarah begin this new era of your lives.
Blessings, Aunt Susan and Uncle John
